Be wary of the price the rest of your life has to pay for success in one area of your life.

You need to balance all areas of your life.

Success is great but it can ruin your life if it pulls your life apart. If you shortchange your health, your relationship, your values, etc. to make it, these other areas will come back to haunt you. It is all about balance. It is easy to forget the other areas in your life when you are concentrating on success. Don’t do it. The warning signs will be there, make sure you pay attention.

What part of your life have you been neglecting?

Before you can have you must do and before you can do you must be.

Success starts with a change in yourself.

You probably need to change some things before you are successful or you would probably already be successful. You need to learn something new, you need to act a different way, talk a different way, etc. This will make you a different person, the person that can be successful given those new tools.

What kind of person can give you what you want?

Goals need to be flexible.

Goals should not be set in stone, you need to be able to adapt.

Things change every day, so you must be ready to modify or even drop your goals. This is probably the hardest thing in goal setting. You need to be totally committed to goals and give 100% of your effort to them, while at the same time being willing to change them as conditions dictate. Changing a goal is not failure, it is learning.

Take a look at your goals and see if it is time for a change.

Three reasons you have not found success yet.

Here are some surprisingly simple things to do differently that will really move your life ahead.

One reason you have not found success yet is because you are not reaching out to meet enough new people. New people bring new ideas and new opportunities and this is just what you need to be a success. Next is a failure to adapt to new situations. New situations also bring new opportunities and if you look at them with your goals in mind, you can pick a new course that really works for you. Lastly you are not taking enough calculated risks. You can’t avoid risk if you want to move ahead, it is part of the change process, and change is what is needed.

Pick one of the things holding you back and do something differently right now.

Fail faster in order to succeed faster.

The faster you fail, the sooner you get it right and succeed.

You will fail over and over on your road to success. It is just part of the process with almost no way to avoid it. So stop avoiding it and build it into your plans. When you fail, avoid spending a lot of time on blame and instead concentrate on what needs to be fixed. Then do it again. And again. Until you get it and then you will be there, where you want to be

The faster you fail, the faster you will be successful.

Two words that will ruin your life.

“Someday” and “but”.

If you use the word “someday” to put things off you are creating a serious problem for yourself. To be successful you need action and “someday” postpones it. Worse yet is the fact it makes it look like you will do something when odds are you won’t. The same goes for “but”, because you generally use it to make an exception to something that you should be doing. You tie some excuse to the word “but” that seem to let you off the hook. Once again no action is taken.

How about more “right now” and “for sure” in your life?

Criticism is just someone else’s opinion.

Even people who are experts in their fields are sometimes wrong.

When facing criticism, it is up to you to choose whether to believe some of it, none of it, or all of it. What you think is what counts. The greatest fear when we make a mistake is that others will judge us negatively. Others often use criticism out of their own insecurity. It says more about them than it does about us. When we take on a difficult task, we have to ensure that we are doing it for ourselves, not for the approval of anyone else. In that case, failure is far easier to deal with.

Let them say what they want, just do what you think is right.

Just because you are working hard does not mean you are not drifting.

Drifting is to be carried along with no clear goals.

Many of us are working very hard with no particular purpose or goal in mind. We are focused on day to day things and may even be doing fine with them. But we don’t have a clear idea of where we are headed and take no real satisfaction from what we are doing. Figuring out what you really want is hard, but if you want satisfaction in life, you must do it. Surprisingly you will be happier working towards a goal you want even if you don’t attain it than you will be just drifting along

So what is it you really want?

Transfer a chore into a choice if you want success.

This will give you a sense of control and improve your morale.

Not everything you do on the road to success is fun. Some of it is pretty boring and you want to quit. If you find a way to make some aspect of what you must do into a choice you will trigger the motivation to keep at it. The key is to generate a feeling of control.

Find an answer to the question “what choice do I have?”

Be careful about who you pretend to be.

You could become exactly who you want to be or it could be a disaster.

We usually end up being who we pretend to be and that could be good or bad. If you are using the “act as if” principle to fake it until you make it and are aiming at a good cause, it will work. It is powerful stuff, so if you are copying a bad image, you will become a very bad thing.

Every day is a costume party, who are you going to be today?
