One Minute Motivator # 216

Turn inconveniences into lessons.

Inconveniences usually cause us to focus on the negatives in a situation. Imagine how your life would change if these became positive situations.

Too often we see people or things that take up our time as minor headaches and we blame them for slowing us down as we go through the day. Instead we can see these things as gifts in our lives and inconveniences can be reframed as lessons for us to refocus on what is really important to us. You can learn what others are doing wrong and avoid them in your activities.

Now is the chance to look forward to your next inconvenience so you can learn something.

Getting out of your comfort zone is not the answer, it is the start.

I never said getting out of your comfort zone is the answer to your issues. What is does is create space for the answer.

Getting out of your comfort zone creates disruption. It is confrontation to your status quo. It is the end of silence that allows you to stay stuck. These are the new conditions that are needed for you to shake things up and find a new course to achieve the life you really want.

What can you get uncomfortable with right now?

You can’t be happy all the time, but you have to try.

Sure you want to be happy all the time, but sometimes you can’t. Some things just can’t be fixed. That doesn’t mean you are off the hook.

Success and happiness are not about the final outcome. They are about the process. Being aware of what you want and making efforts towards them is the process you want to implement. Along the way you will discover things you can’t control or fix. This does not give you license to just give up. You have to work on the things you can fix. And there is your source of happiness.

What can you fix today?

Many people want to make you their pawn. Don’t let them.

So many people need you to behave in a certain way for them to feel good. They condemn you for your selfishness.

As you go through life you will be pulled in many different ways by people that want to use you for their own ends. Guilt, blame, threats and so on are heaped on you. I won’t tell you that you can avoid all of it. You probably can’t. But at least make yourself aware of the level of this kind of stuff that is aimed at you. Start chipping away at the things you don’t truly want to do and you will feel your life starting to get better.

What steps can you take to lessen being “used” today?

Begin to appreciate the word “Behold”.

Behold means to appreciate something in the present, as opposed to something that happened in the past or may occur in the future.

Ideally you should be spending most of your time beholding things. Focusing heavily on the past or what may occur in the future, robs you of the pleasure of being in the moment. What you missed appreciating in the moment, becomes something in the past and your life moves on.

What do you have to clear up so you can you behold something?

Why you should never say, “I never expected this kind of success”.

Never expecting success goes a long way to guaranteeing that you will not be successful. That is why it is so rare to hear people saying “I never expected this kind of success.

Expectations are everything. Positive and negative. Expecting or not expecting something moves you towards or away for the event. Focus on what you want and expect it to happen to increase your chances it will happen.

What success can you begin to expect right now?

Nothing is more important that how you feel right now.

Make up your mind that nothing is more important than how I feel now, because now is everything.

I don’t have to tell you the past is gone and the future is not here yet. But I do have to tell you to live in the here and now. Anything else is living in fantasyland. Reliving pain or pleasure from the past is OK in moderation. The same is true for things you anticipate in the future, but after that it is a waste of your present time.

What are you feeling right now?

Stop focusing on what you don’t want and focus on what you do want.

We get what we focus on, so make it what you want.

When you acknowledge what you do not want, and then ask yourself, “What is it that I do want?” you begin a gradual shift into positive territory. You get the essence of what you think about – whether you want it or not – because Law of Attraction is unerringly consistent.

Focus on what you do want right now.

Most masterpieces started out as a dud.

Most great works or accomplishments start out just awful. It is what happens after that that counts.

Very few people come up with the perfect book, painting, business idea, etc on the first try. Usually the first effort is pretty bad. If you ever have a chance to trace back the steps a successful effort went through before it was finished, you would be amazed. The trick is to hang in there and let your creative juices work on it. Keep trying and make small improvements. Sooner or later it will get there.

So what dud project can you make a small improvement on today?

Getting closure will not end the pain of loss.

Getting closure doesn’t end pain, it just changes it.

Closure is a good start on the road to easing the pain of loss, but the pain will never fully go away. Yes, working through the stages of grief is also helpful, but contrary to what you have been told, the pain will never totally go away. So don’t think you are wrong to continue to feel the pain of loss long after these steps have occurred. Pain is your way of honoring or valuing what you lost. Let it be, feel it, don’t push it away, watch it change.

What pain of loss can you acknowledge is still with you?
