Don’t let setbacks be throwbacks.

If you are out there making things happen, there are bound to be setbacks along the way. Don’t focus on these setbacks so long that they end up throwing you back. ‘Acknowledge them, learn from them and then concentrate on moving your goals ahead. Setbacks are bound to occur, throwbacks only occur if you let them.

Celebrate all your victories, big or small, every day.

Success builds on accomplishment by accomplishment and celebrating each victory you have gives positive reinforcement to your actions. This helps you keep going. Acknowledge each “win” and give yourself credit for what you did right. You not only will feel better throughout the day but you will find yourself having more and more “wins” because of this. Take a victory lap right now just for reading this.

Rid yourself of toxic relationships.

Relationships can help you or hurt you. That is why a good support system can help you attain your goals. If you have positive people around you their belief in you will help you take action when you need a little reassurance. And for sure they won’t pull you down or discourage you. Granted you can’t get rid of all the toxic people around you, but you can at least cut down the time you spend with those people you must tolerate. Spend more time with those that support you and less time with those that don’t for a more success and certainly happier life.

Keep a “This To Shall Pass” attitude as you go though your day.

Problems and obstacles of varying size will come to you every day. Face these issues head on with an attitude that you can handle it and it will fade away. Build a track record of handling issues and remind yourself of this when you are faced with a new challenge. This way you can do the most important thing which is take action and be on your way to getting back on course. The only thing that won’t pass is your success.

Keep a few negatives around to help you with your decision making.

You need balance in your decision making. Overly positive people, just as overly negative people tend to make poor decisions because of their biased mind set. So if you tend to be a positive person or are using positive thinking to help you with your goals, keep some negative factors in your decision process. This will bring a balance to the process that helps you reach a more objective conclusion.

For some people, going to their “Dark Side” is the only thing that motivates them.

I hate to say it, but sometimes only negative things like pain, threats, financial loss, etc. are the only things that motivates certain people. And we know it works, just watch a few Godfather movies. If you have tried all the positive reinforcement methods and still can’t motivate yourself, try the “Dark Side”. Imagine all the pain and bad things that will happen to you if you don’t accomplish your goal. You could even go the extreme of guaranteeing bad things will happen if you don’t accomplish your goal. If all else has failed, it may be time for a trip to the “Dark Side” in order to move your life ahead.

Be 100% alive today by finding hope!

Most of the people in the world devote a lot of effort to tuning out, dumbing down and reducing their thoughts and energy. Why? Because it hurts them to be fully alive and in contact with the world. But oh what a price they pay. Missed opportunities pile up and that must makes things worse. They spiral downward with every move feeding it. Here is how you turn this around. You find something to hope for. No matter how small the hope is, it can help you change this downward spiral. Stop all your thoughts and begin to search for something you can hope for. Then focus on that. As soon as you focus on hope, things begin to change ever so slowly. The world begins to come back, you can feel again. The more you focus on something to hope for the more you feel alive. Nothing is too small to focus on and hope for. Focus on hope right now, the world is waiting for you.

Use “Mental Contrasting” to turn your dreams into reality.

“Mental Contrasting” has us imagine what we want, and then list the barriers that prevent us from attaining the thing we imagined. Studies have shown this to be more effective in the long term than simple positive thinking as a means of attaining a goal. This exercise keeps us grounded in terms of recognizing what is involved in attaining a goal. It has also been shown to generate more energy towards achieving the goal. So next time you start to visualize a goal, take it a step further and recognize the steps needed to attain the goal.

It’s time to feel alive again.

How long has it been since you felt truly alive? For most of us, it is a struggle to answer that. Usually we stopped feeling alive once we became adults. What happened? We took the joy out of our lives. We stopped believing we could do everything. We tell ourselves no, way before anyone else does. Our inner voice puts more and more restrictions on us and shuts down most of our focus on fun things. Keep your focus on doing what you need to do but keep an eye open for small “harmless” ways you can bring fun and aliveness back into your life. Step by step you will feel an aliveness you haven’t felt in years.

Turn off you TV to turn on your life.

Even though TVs get lighter every year, they are a huge weight on your life. Every day a new study comes out showing the more you watch TV, the more you tend to weigh, the more depressed you are, the less money you make and so on. Do you really have to watch that much news? It is no accident that most of the ads that run during the news are for prescription drugs. And watching TV before you go to sleep almost guarantees bad dreams. Cut your TV time down and use the time saved to move your life ahead. Exercise, read uplifting and educational material, focus on your relationships, whatever. Just cut down on TV to move your life ahead.
