Tony Robbins suggests people say to themselves “This ends here and now; my new life begins today” when faced with serious issues. Then he advises, you should find a proven strategy to help with the issue. The lesson here is that it helps to acknowledge a problem, take responsibility to fix and then find a way to do it. Starting with a proven system gives you a big advantage in that someone else has already solved most problems we face.

Make your intentions clear to yourself as to why you are reading something before you start and it will improve your focus and efficiency. Your mind pays attention to what you tell it and your intentions allow your mind to seek out just what you are looking for. This cuts out a lot of the clutter you usually find yourself caught up in.

Stress does not have to be harmful to your health. According to Kelly McGonigal, Head Psychologist at Stanford University, it is all in how you look at it.. If you look at what is going on in your body such as a pounding heart, sweating, etc, as taking action towards your goals, much of the threat to your health diminishes. Next time you feel stress, name some of the ways this is part of the process of accomplishing what you want and you will be doing your body a big favor.

Change your story to change your life. Most people have a “story” they believe about themselves. And it is how they describe themselves to others. Often the story is built around things you can’t do, such as make money, have a successful relationship, be healthy, etc. This disempowers you and makes it harder for you to get what you want from others. Make up a new, positive, empowering story for yourself and begin to use it, even if you don’t believe it at first. Your life will begin to align itself with the story you are telling and you will be on your way.

Go easy on the affirmations. New research shows that affirmations are so powerful that they can cause you to slack off on attaining a goal. Positive affirmations can cause you to act as if you have attained your goal and stop taking the actions needed to actually attain the goal. So you should add a “clause” to your affirmation that will cause you to keep taking action towards it. Here is an example of this if you wanted to lose weight. Instead of saying, “I am perfectly normal weight”, you would say, “I am perfectly normal weight because I have eliminated snacks”.

Ask yourself if you have things backwards. Do you work to build wealth and lose your health in the process, then spend your wealth to get back your health? Did you get bored with your childhood, race to be an adult, and now want to be childlike again? Do you spend so much time thinking about the future, there is no present? Are you living your life as though you will never die, and will you die thinking that you never lived? Do you think being rich is having the most, when in fact being rich means needing the least?

You need to believe you can accomplish your goal if you want to accomplish your goal.

You can set anything you want for a goal, but if you don’t really believe in it, you will fail.

The R in SMART goals stands for realistic and this is key to actually achieving the goal. If you don’t really believe in your goal, at some level you will hold back and not accomplish it. Yes, you want to stretch you goals, but if you go too far out you will fail.

If you take it step by step you can start things before you are ready.

Learn to start before you feel ready, and you will learn how to succeed, step by step, before you even realize that you’re good enough. You don’t have to be perfect but you do have to start. Sure you will make mistakes but if you learn from them you will be way ahead compared to where you would be by waiting.
