One Minute Motivator # 271

Some people find fault like there is a reward for it.

Some people will go to extraordinary means to find problems and involve you in them.

We just can’t avoid the fact that some people are just extreme pessimists. But we can avoid getting tangled up with them. Most of the time it is the same people in our lives that bring problems to us. They try to rope you into their mess and pull you down. Avoid these people at all costs, they can only hurt you. And when you sense a new contact is heading in this direction, start to distance yourself right away.

Hide, the pessimists are coming.

Control the conversation for a better outcome.

Generally you have an idea how you would like a conversation to go. Here is how to do it.

If you want a conversation to stay positive, make sure you speak first and set a positive tone, plus add positive body language to support it. In most cases the person you are talking to will follow your lead as to the tone of the conversation. This works on sales calls as well as dealing with ‘grumpy” friends.

Get ready for your next conversation.

Ignore nonsense.

In order to make progress you need to let information in but that doesn’t mean you have to listen to nonsense.

Sometimes we let ourselves become affected by things that aren’t that important. It can be easy to do when you’re distracted from what truly matters. One way to deal with this is to make a list of what — and who — is actually important to you. And when negative things happen with people or events outside this list, don’t allow them to bother you.

You know what counts. Remember it.

Look for people that have other thoughts.

The most successful people mix their thoughts up with thoughts from other people and then pick what is best.

Being a “yes man” might work for the “yes man” but it doesn’t work for the person being “yessed” You can always learn new things and pick up better ideas no matter how good you are.

Start listening to new ideas today.

I know you are asking the right questions. But are you answering them?

Most people tend to question what they are doing, but then they don’t wait for the answer.

Questioning what you are doing is a great way to see if you are on course with your goals and other aspects of your life. But it there is even the slightest pause in an answer coming back, we tend to move on without waiting for the answer. This causes us to miss some very valuable information about where we are at in our lives. You are just a few seconds away from incredibly useful feedback, but you walk away from it.

Wait for the answers to your questions, you will be amazed at what is coming.

How to motivate others.

The key to motivating others is to be enthusiastic about what you want done.

The more excited you are about accomplishing something that is important to you, the more excited others will be about helping you to do it. The fact is that emotions are contagious. The more passion you have for your life and your activities, the more charisma you will possess, and the more cooperation you will gain from others.

Now is the time to get excited about what you want done.

Ask with confidence when you want something.

People who ask confidently get more than those who are hesitant and uncertain.

When you’ve figured out what you want to ask for, do it with certainty, boldness and confidence. People will pick up on your attitude and will be more likely to go along with your request. If you show self doubt and a lack of confidence people will be more likely to question granting your request.

Believe in yourself and others will be more likely to believe in you as well.

You don’t have to act on feedback immediately.

Don’t feel that you have to use feedback at the time it is given.

Feedback is great in so many ways but you already know that. Many of us feel that we must “snap to” when given feedback but that is not always the case. Sometime we need time to digest what we learned. We have to evaluate its usefulness and decide how to use it, if at all.

Listen to feedback, but take your time using it.

Let The 2% Go.

No matter how hard you try at least 2% of the people you are dealing with at any moment, won’t get it. It is not worth the effort to try.

You can’t please all the people all the time. Some won’t listen, some don’t care, some are not equipped mentally and so on. If you try to reach all the people, you end up using up a lot of time and energy plus harming your efforts in order to get to them. Let them go, they are not worth the extra effort from you.

OK, the 98% is waiting for you, go get em!

Be clear about the messages you are sending and the perceptions you are creating in others.

Sometimes what we think we are sending out is received totally different from what we want. This rarely works out well.

You already know the importance of sending out the right messages. But chances are you are not so careful about making sure they get though correctly. Take the time to check out how your messages are being received. Watch for the reaction the person you are talking to have. Ask people reading something you have written to comment and so on. Seek feedback on how people perceive you and your ideas. Then watch for areas your communication skills need improvement and button them up.

Clear communications with others gives you a clear shot at attaining your goals.
