Practicing gratitude.

The more you practice gratitude, the more you see how much there is to be grateful for, and your life becomes an ongoing celebration of joy and happiness. If this is new to you, begin by listing seven things you are grateful for. Don’t insist they be big things, small things work just as well. Do this every day and watch how you feel after you do your list. Honestly the payoff is huge.

Why is it that some people seem to be happy all the time?

They do this on a regular basis.

They smile. Smiling changes the way we react to the world and the way the world reacts to us, making our lives happier. They also nurture relationships. We really do need people and making relationships work pays back big time. And here is the biggie: they live in the moment. They don’t wallow in the past or worry about the future, they take life as it is and deal with it, good or bad.

Ask yourself “Am I making the right use of my scarce and precious life?”

Most people understand at some level that they are wasting big portions of their lives on things that are not really important. Here is the secret to changing that.
The secret is not simply a resolution to stop wasting time, however. It is to find a systematic way to raise the scarcity of time to our consciousness. You need to be evaluating your activities in terms of them falling in the last period of your life.

What can you do now that really matters?

You can’t be happy all the time, but you have to try.

Sure you want to be happy all the time, but sometimes you can’t. Some things just can’t be fixed. That doesn’t mean you are off the hook.

Success and happiness are not about the final outcome. They are about the process. Being aware of what you want and making efforts towards them is the process you want to implement. Along the way you will discover things you can’t control or fix. This does not give you license to just give up. You have to work on the things you can fix. And there is your source of happiness.

What can you fix today?

What would you really like to be feeling right now?

Most of us just take whatever they are feeling as the moment as a given. But you have a choice.

So if to a large extent you have a choice as to how you feel right now, it helps to know where you would like to be. Just as you have other goals in your life, having a goal as to how you feel is key. It guides you and shows you when you are off course. So what do you have to believe or do to get your head where you want it?

Focus on what is in your control right now and start to shift your feelings over to where you want them.

Learn to be satisfied.

The key to happiness is being dissatisfied enough to want to improve but satisfied enough to be happy.

I am always prodding people to get out of their comfort zone, but that does not mean becoming unhappy. There is a fine line between getting out of your comfort zone and becoming unhappy with your life. Just because you set goals for a better life, it does not mean your present life is all that bad. Learn to accept what is good enough as opposed to the very best, if moving to the next level is simply not worth the effort given your other priorities.

I like to say good enough is my very best.

Someone is always watching.

Always act like someone is watching, even if it is only you.

When you are putting out extra effort like you are it would be nice if someone would notice it. And many times it seems like no one is. Don’t stop putting in the extra effort because of this. Although it may not seem like it someone is in fact noticing what you are doing even if they don’t say anything. And of course if you stop putting in the extra effort you are back with all the others just coasting along and that is not you.

Get back to work, I’m watching you.

The secret to live is live and experience what you have right now. The past is past and who really know what is coming next. This moment is really what you have been working towards. All your thought and effort put you where you are right now. Savor it, very few people are enjoying the moment as you are, You deserve it, take it now.

Life is just a series of moments; take this one while you have it.

You can never cry joyfully if you view yourself as an ugly duckling.

Viewing yourself as an ugly duckling takes away any chance of finding joy in your life.

Maybe you are not the most beautiful or handsome, I know I am not but why sentence yourself to a joyless life? Viewing yourself as unlovable causes you to not even love yourself. And that is an awful life to live. Come on you are a good person, recognize your worth and begin to let the job back in your life.

You are a beautiful person; it is a beautiful day, get on with a beautiful life.

Do you know what is important to you?

The good news is the world is full of opportunities. The bad news is that you can’t do most of them.

If you don’t have a good sense of what is important to you, you will just spend you time, energy and funds chasing everything. Or else chasing nothing. Goals setting certainly helps you with this as you have to determine what is important to you in order to set goals. This is not fool proof as you can pick up others values or just pick goals that sound good to you. Now is the time to relook at your goals and ask yourself if they are really important to you. Or are they important to someone else.

So what do you really want to do right now?
