How to stop denying reality about something you don’t like.

Unpleasant realities can never be hidden, they just get you in different ways.

When we are in denial about something we don’t want to think about, we find that different forms of unpleasantness creep into our lives. We are just uncomfortable. Still we won’t let that negative reality in and the circle continues. The way to deal with this is to accept the unpleasant feelings you are getting and not try to push them away. Once you are OK, with say, being depressed at times, you will find that the underlying reason you are feeling depressed can be dealt with as you have already paid the price(depression) that you were trying to avoid.

Ready to let some negative emotions in?

Stop Living in the past.

As it is with the future, do not time travel back into the past.

The past may have happy memories and sad memories. Living both of them in your head is just as bad as delving into things that haven’t happened. Because here too, it is just something you have no control over anymore. If the past was bleak, looking back will always make you sad, and if it was too happy, you will compare it with the present. Do not time travel.

Experience life as it is right now.

Begin to appreciate the word “Behold”.

Behold means to appreciate something in the present, as opposed to something that happened in the past or may occur in the future.

Ideally you should be spending most of your time beholding things. Focusing heavily on the past or what may occur in the future, robs you of the pleasure of being in the moment. What you missed appreciating in the moment, becomes something in the past and your life moves on.

What do you have to clear up so you can you behold something?

Getting closure will not end the pain of loss.

Getting closure doesn’t end pain, it just changes it.

Closure is a good start on the road to easing the pain of loss, but the pain will never fully go away. Yes, working through the stages of grief is also helpful, but contrary to what you have been told, the pain will never totally go away. So don’t think you are wrong to continue to feel the pain of loss long after these steps have occurred. Pain is your way of honoring or valuing what you lost. Let it be, feel it, don’t push it away, watch it change.

What pain of loss can you acknowledge is still with you?

It is what it is.

This popular expression sums up a great way to guide your life.

Accept what is really going on with yourself and the world. Then deal with it.
Denying your current circumstances is not a strategy for success. On the other hand tailoring your actions to what is really going on always works.

What is really going on right now?

Own your problems.

Take responsibility for the bad things that happened to you in the past, even if you are totally convinced they were not caused by you.

No matter what has happened to you, take complete responsibility for it—good or bad, victory or defeat. Own it. We resist taking ownership of issues we had in the past, because it is painful to think we had something to do with them. But while painful, it is freeing to do it. If you spend time fighting things in the past, you are working on something you can’t help and you are no longer moving forward.

Now is the time to own a problem from the past that is bugging you.

Too Many Great Opportunities Costs You Every Opportunity.

You need to focus on just a few of your top priority goals or else you will get bogged down in too many things.

It is great to want to do all those things you want to do and it is so so hard to say no to things you really want to work on. But say no you must. If you take on more than a few projects, soon you will be lost in a maze of details, not knowing where to start or what to do next. And you will accomplish nothing.

Start reviewing what you are working on right now and cut the lesser projects out today.

Rock bottom is a great foundation to build on.

Hitting bottom is an awful experience and it is also a new beginning.

It is over, you can’t fall any more, you are at the bottom but you are alive and able to begin to pick up the pieces and move on. You know how you got there and you know what you need to get off the bottom. Every effort now can only move you up.

Acknowledge you hit rock bottom and start looking for the way out.

What opportunities were you given today?

As sure as the sun comes up, new and even old opportunities are presented to you. Are you paying attention?

In the course of dealing with all the stuff that makes up our daily lives, it is hard to sort out the new opportunities that have come up. And then there are the opportunities that are still waiting for us. This is why writing out your goals every day makes us review what we what and this in turn causes us to look for ways to get there. Presto those opportunities appear and off you go.

Time to wake up and smell those opportunities.

Baby steps count.

Stop holding off on your goals until you can take massive action; you need to start with baby steps.

By starting with baby steps you are more apt to start a project and starting is the key. Action begets more action and you are off and running. Baby steps entail less risk and are therefore easier to take. Also they are easier to correct, so you lose less in the event of a mistake.

What have you been putting off that you can take a baby step on right now?
