One Minute Motivator # 452

Make the decision that will make you feel good after the moment instead of the decision that will make you feel good in the moment.

Taking the course of action that will make you feel good in the long run is generally the key to success.

As hard as it is to do, when faced with long term versus short term satisfaction, go for long term satisfaction. This is where you have to reach inside yourself and tap into all the reasons you have set a goal. Step back and review all the reasons you took the course you are on and what it will bring you if you stick to it.

Long term satisfaction is the road to choose.

It is easier to make decisions if you know your goals.

Having goals makes your life so so much easier.

It is so easy to get bogged down in life making decisions. I mean they come at you from every direction and take time and effort, no matter how small they are. For many of us it is an ongoing battle because we really have not taken a stand with ourselves and decided what we want. But if you do have your goals set up, each decision can be held up against it and the decision becomes easier.

A decision is coming, do you know your goals?

Make a decision and then make the decision right.

Line up your Energy with it.

In most cases, it doesn’t really matter what you decide. Just decide. There are endless options that would serve you well, and all or any one of them is better than no decision. Besides the sooner you start, the sooner you can correct a decision if it was wrong.

Use an “imaginary you” to make decisions.

Many times we don’t feel qualified to handle the decisions before us, so creating an “imaginary you” to make the decision will help.

If you are faced with a decision that seems to overwhelm you, think of who would have the qualifications, experience, etc to make it for you. Then imagine yourself having those exact qualifications and ask that “imaginary you” what to do. You will be astounded at the answer you get back. Somehow you are able to access those traits that are needed to make the decision through the “imaginary you”.

Who do you need to be today in order to make a decision?

Four ideas to eliminate right now if you want to be successful.

Our thoughts are the key to our success or failure.

These thoughts can get you in big trouble if you let them run your life.

1. Thinking you are always right. This closes you off from new ideas and that is the key to moving ahead.

2. Thinking that your past determines your future, particularly if you focus on the negative. Every day you start with a clean slate, use it.

3. Thinking that you are a victim. By taking responsibility for what happens to you, you gain control of your life and your self-esteem goes up.

4. Thinking about what others think about you. You give up your own values and standards by doing this. You are perfect as you are.

What are you thinking about now?

Just because something happened doesn’t mean you have to keep thinking about it.

Sometimes an event occurs and for whatever reason, we keep it in our minds even though it really doesn’t matter to us.

We carry it around even though it is not something that will help move our life ahead or is important in any particular way. It helps to take an inventory every now and then of what we are thinking about. You will be surprised at what you find. And once you find “junk” thoughts and toss them, you will feel much better and be more focused.

What thoughts are you carrying around right now?

When you are stuck solving a problem, change your vantage point.

Taking a different viewpoint could be the key to a new outcome.

Sometimes when you drop something on the floor you have to change your vantage point to gain new information on their position. So it is with issues you are trying to solve. Looking at the issue from a different viewpoint may give you new information that can help you. Search for additional ways you can view the problem so you give yourself new options.

What alternate vantage point can you use today?

Saying “OK whatever” and going with the flow can streamline your life.

Reserving your decision making for just the high priority decisions save brainpower for when you need it.

Many of us suffer from “decision overload” in which we bombard ourselves with decisions from the moment we get up till we go to bed. It starts with what to eat for breakfast and runs on till we decide on what to watch on TV. Every decision we make takes a toll on us and we need to cut down on the number of decisions we make to reduce the toll. The more little stuff we turn into habits that eliminate choices or let others make for us can help with this.

What decisions can you outsource today?

It is just not worth trying to please everybody.

Trying to make 100% of your friends, customers, relatives, etc happy is just not an efficient use of your time or money. You have to let some of them go.

Once you get past a certain point, it stops being feasible to make the remaining segment happy. That last segment takes way, way more time, effort and probably money to satisfy. Accept that you can’t please them all and be happy you have saved yourself endless grief.

Who can you let go of today?

Don’t forget to consider duration and intensity when setting goals.

How long you should continue an activity related to your goal and at what intensity is rarely listed as factors when setting goals. This is a mistake.

Sure you know the basics of setting S.M.A.R.T. goals but these leave out two things you need to consider. Just how long are you going to work on the goal in a day? And how hard are you going to work on the goal when you do work on it? These two factors can radically alter the results you achieve when working on your goals.

Go back over your top goals and plug in some duration and intensity factors right now.
