Don’t be a hypocrite about failure.

Many of us say we embrace failure to learn from it, but run from our own failures.

By avoiding accepting failure and pushing our failures under the rug we hurt ourselves. First off, we truly do have the chance to learn what went wrong and avoid repeating the same mistakes. Secondly depending on how we avoid facing failure, we can look foolish to others. This will hurt your progress in other ways if people see you in that light. And it hurts your future. If you can’t deal with failure now, you won’t in the future and may make you more afraid to take chances that are needed to reach your goals.

If you failed, you already paid the price, why not collect your prize of progress next time around.

Know what will make you fail and plan what to do when it happens.

Just as you must know what success looks like, you must know what failure is and what you will do if it happens.

As you work towards your goals, you will have setbacks. Do you know which setbacks are permanent and how you will “bail” when they occur? If you think through what can go wrong, you can avoid quitting too soon. Also your response time to problems will be much better allowing you to get back on track sooner.

What problems are you headed for and what will you do about them?

Use these four tips to bounce back.

The hard truth about caring about things is that things will go wrong. Here is how to work your way out of the funk that comes with that.

1. Take a “this too shall pass attitude”. As hard as it is to accept when you are feeling down, most things get better over time.

2. Surround yourself with positive people. Move closer to people you know will support you and avoid the naysayers in your life.

3. Take action. Do something, anything. Action of some type will give you your sense of control back.

4. Use positive self-talk. Concentrate on verbalizing positive things about yourself and your situation. Gradually your mind will accept this and turn things around for you.

Ready to give these tips a try?

What to do when things have gone wrong.

Here are six things you can do to help turn around a bad situation.

1. First don’t make yourself crazy. Recognize what went wrong but don’t let it paralyze you. You need to be able to think in the midst of failure.

2. Focus on what you can change. No sense on trying things you can’t change, your only hope is in the areas where you can change.

3. Remind yourself of what you have done right. This stops you from changing something that is working and helps you lower the stress levels.

4. Reconsider what you consider failure. Maybe what happened is OK if you look at it differently. This could save a lot of time and grief.

5. Ask for help. You are in over your pay grade; time to bring in the pros.

6. Reevaluate the desired outcome. Maybe you can use this outcome instead of the one you were looking for.

You can pull this off, just keep breathing and look for a positive way out of this, chances are you will be OK.

Do not glamorize failure.

Sure everyone fails at some point, and you do need to learn from it. But it is not something to treat as a positive.

It is popular to look at successful people’s failure as a way to legitimize your own. Failure is not necessarily a sign you are on the way to success. At some point you have to admit things are not working and change them. Racking up a score of failures does not help that. People who have had a series of failures and then succeeded are outliers. Get off the failure track as soon as possible; there is no glamour there.

What can you do right today?

Why people not as smart as you do better than you.

It happens because those people focus on their wins instead of their loses.

Successful people are happier than non-successful people but it is because they don’t wait to win in order to be happy. They focus on the good in every outcome. Research shows, that those who are happiest are the most successful. When you are happy, success comes easier. You are more creative and more resilient. You think bigger, are more hopeful and optimistic. These are the keys to success.

What just happened that you could find the good in?

Make a “Got Done” list to boost your morale and productivity.

Making list of your accomplishments reminds you of all the things you have done so far and helps keep you focused on your goals.

Start to list things you have done that moved you towards your goals. It keeps you focused on your goals and stops you from losing momentum when you experience a set back. It also really helps avoid feeling overwhelmed when you look at your “To Do” list. Even small wins should make it onto your list, as many times it is the small wins that set up the big wins.

Time to take a “feel good” break and start your “Got Done” list.

Stop whining. Nobody cares and it doesn’t help.

95% of the people you whine to don’t care and the other 5% are glad it happened to you.

When you have a problem, whining is a luxury you can’t afford. Whining makes you feel worse as you wallow in your problem. And it takes time away from finding the fix. Instead focus on what went wrong and the fix or at least learn from the problem.

What would you like to stop whining about and fix today?

Turn inconveniences into lessons.

Inconveniences usually cause us to focus on the negatives in a situation. Imagine how your life would change if these became positive situations.

Too often we see people or things that take up our time as minor headaches and we blame them for slowing us down as we go through the day. Instead we can see these things as gifts in our lives and inconveniences can be reframed as lessons for us to refocus on what is really important to us. You can learn what others are doing wrong and avoid them in your activities.

Now is the chance to look forward to your next inconvenience so you can learn something.

You can’t be happy all the time, but you have to try.

Sure you want to be happy all the time, but sometimes you can’t. Some things just can’t be fixed. That doesn’t mean you are off the hook.

Success and happiness are not about the final outcome. They are about the process. Being aware of what you want and making efforts towards them is the process you want to implement. Along the way you will discover things you can’t control or fix. This does not give you license to just give up. You have to work on the things you can fix. And there is your source of happiness.

What can you fix today?
