People will always be offering you excuses. Don’t take them.

Out of kindness many people will offer you excuses for why you failed. They are hurting you instead.

If you accept other people excuses, you stop learning about what really went wrong and you are almost certain to fail again If you really want to succeed you must face your failure and learn how to make the best of it and move on. This is the way you grow. You do not grow when you accept other peoples excuses.

Step up and accept responsibility for your failure.

How to avoid snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Here is why we foul up a sure thing.

We don’t follow though when things are set up for us to win. We just walk away from a sure thing. Once we see things are going our way we do not follow thorough and clinch the victory. We don’t take that final step since it looks like it is in the bad. But it is the last step that makes in happen and without it you fail.

What do you need to follow up on?

Know what will make you fail and plan what to do when it happens.

Just as you must know what success looks like, you must know what failure is and what you will do if it happens.

As you work towards your goals, you will have setbacks. Do you know which setbacks are permanent and how you will “bail” when they occur? If you think through what can go wrong, you can avoid quitting too soon. Also your response time to problems will be much better allowing you to get back on track sooner.

What problems are you headed for and what will you do about them?

Trying to find the answer from within is a waste of time.

You are better off researching a problem or asking for help from someone else.

Meditation is great for lowering blood pressure and stress, but it is not very effective at giving you the answers to pressing issues. Maybe you will think of something while meditating, but chances are you will not. From a time effectiveness standpoint your chances of finding a solution to your problem are much higher if you ask someone for help or research the problems some other way.

Got a problem? Ask for help.

How to remain happy even when you are failing.

Failing is a bummer, but it doesn’t have to be a downer.

Failing can be really, really depressing, no doubt about it. And when we really want to be happy it seems to hit us harder. The key to overcome this is to modify your goals away from absolute success and to incorporate factors that let you get credit for learning from failure.
When you are faced with a failure and you give yourself credit for trying to learn from what happened, you give yourself hope while gaining satisfaction from you efforts. This translates to happiness.

Ready to take a shot at reframing failure into happiness?

Four good things about failure.

Sure failure hurts but here are four reasons it could be your friend.

Failure almost always teaches you something. You paid the price so why not learn from it.

You generally have to go through failure to get to success. With a failure you are one step closer to success.

Dealing with failure gives you something to be genuinely proud of. Not everyone can do it, but you can.

Think of a recent failure and see how these principles apply.

What to do when things have gone wrong.

Here are six things you can do to help turn around a bad situation.

1. First don’t make yourself crazy. Recognize what went wrong but don’t let it paralyze you. You need to be able to think in the midst of failure.

2. Focus on what you can change. No sense on trying things you can’t change, your only hope is in the areas where you can change.

3. Remind yourself of what you have done right. This stops you from changing something that is working and helps you lower the stress levels.

4. Reconsider what you consider failure. Maybe what happened is OK if you look at it differently. This could save a lot of time and grief.

5. Ask for help. You are in over your pay grade; time to bring in the pros.

6. Reevaluate the desired outcome. Maybe you can use this outcome instead of the one you were looking for.

You can pull this off, just keep breathing and look for a positive way out of this, chances are you will be OK.

Are you a failure?

It depends on how you look at it.

Trying to determine if we are a success or a failure haunts us most of the time. And yet the answer is that in most cases it depends on very arbitrary measurements and comes down to us deciding which way we want to judge it. You can spend your life analyzing a situation and trying to put a label on it. Or you save yourself a lot of grief and say what you learned and move on to another project. From a productivity standpoint, moving on is the way to go. More importantly, from a self esteem perspective, the best approach is to give yourself the benefit of the doubt and move on as well.

I declare you the winner, and it is time to move on.

Do not glamorize failure.

Sure everyone fails at some point, and you do need to learn from it. But it is not something to treat as a positive.

It is popular to look at successful people’s failure as a way to legitimize your own. Failure is not necessarily a sign you are on the way to success. At some point you have to admit things are not working and change them. Racking up a score of failures does not help that. People who have had a series of failures and then succeeded are outliers. Get off the failure track as soon as possible; there is no glamour there.

What can you do right today?
