Finish it or it will drag you down.

Jumping back and forth to various projects because you find them unpleasant really kills your productivity.

No matter how much you dislike a task, stay with it as long as you can. If you have to keep going back to it, your productivity takes a nosedive. Having to restart lost momentum is a feat in itself. It pulls every project you put off finishing down with it.

Go finish something.

Getting comfortable with what you fear is the secret to self-confidence.

Most of us would like to feel more confident is some area and have trouble building self-confidence, even when we begin to have more success in that area. Some people who are wealthy still lack confidence in their ability to make money; others have successful relationships but still lack self-confidence in maintaining a relationship. Positive self-talk doesn’t help. I still see that overweight guy in the mirror when I tell myself I am slim.

What does work is getting comfortable with what you fear. Want more confidence in relationships, get comfortable with rejection, want more self-confidence in business, and get comfortable with failure. Once you can accept the worst, you view what you have as being lower risk and worry less about it.

Explore your fears and find ways to be OK with them and then you can move into the world with a new attitude of self-confidence.

Most people abandon their goals because they think they take too long. They don’t see the progress they expect given the effort they are putting in so they quit.

This is human nature. We underestimate the time it takes to do things in the short term. Didn’t your last project seem like it took forever to complete? Big goals take a long time to accomplish and we need a system to help us stay the course. It helps to break the goals down into smaller and smaller steps that you can use to measure progress. That way you can focus on the progress you are making on each step and stay motivated to complete the whole process.

The key to happiness is in the future, not the past.

Here are some tips to increase your happiness. If you want to be happier look forward not backwards. First instead of worrying about who did what and who’s to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do. Second, whenever you’re faced with a difficulty, focus on the solution rather than on the problem. Think and talk about the ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing the problem. Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative. The instant that you begin thinking in terms of solutions, you become positive and can immediately take action on resolving the issue. Lastly look for the good in what is currently making you unhappy assume that something good is hidden within each difficulty or challenge.

Change your mind if you want to be successful.

In our culture it has become a sign of weakness and unreliability if you change your mind. Yet as we grow, learn new things, develop new skills, etc, it causes us to look at ideas we had in the past differently. We see new and better ways to do things. At the same time we don’t want to look weak, indecisive, or admit we were wrong. So we cling to the old ways of doing things even though we know of a better way. Changing your mind is a sign of growth and improvement and presents a real opportunity to move your life ahead.. Set your ego, fear of looking weak or having been wrong aside and choose to begin a new, better way of doing things. The only regret you will have is not changing your mind sooner.

Success does not go straight up. In reality success goes sideways, then ahead, then backwards, then ahead, in a circle, then ahead. You will have setbacks, breakdowns, upsets and all sorts of detours on your way to success. But you will eventually make it. We tend to look at other people’s successes and think they were a straight line. Then we compare them to our own experience and become frustrated. Let me assure you, you are perfectly normal and this is the way things work. In the end you will make it and how you got there will not matter at all.

Good enough is perfect. Perfect is nice in theory but it is highly overrated in almost everything we do. As a rule of thumb it takes twice as much time and effort to go from “good enough” to perfect as it does to get a project to the “good enough stage. There is very little payback to be achieved from that proposition. And then there is the mental cost. Stress levels red line when you try to make something perfect. So as the saying goes “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good”.

Change your story to change your life. Most people have a “story” they believe about themselves. And it is how they describe themselves to others. Often the story is built around things you can’t do, such as make money, have a successful relationship, be healthy, etc. This disempowers you and makes it harder for you to get what you want from others. Make up a new, positive, empowering story for yourself and begin to use it, even if you don’t believe it at first. Your life will begin to align itself with the story you are telling and you will be on your way.

Ask yourself if you have things backwards. Do you work to build wealth and lose your health in the process, then spend your wealth to get back your health? Did you get bored with your childhood, race to be an adult, and now want to be childlike again? Do you spend so much time thinking about the future, there is no present? Are you living your life as though you will never die, and will you die thinking that you never lived? Do you think being rich is having the most, when in fact being rich means needing the least?
